烏龜決定和兔子比賽賽跑,比賽開始後,烏龜被遠遠的甩在後面……
“This will be a very easy race, ” thought the hare, seeing how painfully slow his rival was. “Take your time!” he said. “I’ll have forty winks.” So the hare decided to stop to take a rest, and he quickly fell asleep under a tree at the side of the road.
兔子因為看到他的對手動作那麼慢,所以心中認為:「這場比賽真容易!」。他說:「慢慢來阿!」 「我要打個盹兒。」於是,兔子決定停下腳步休息一下,他在路邊的樹下很快地睡著了。
The sun started to sink and was soon below the horizon. The tortoise had been plodding towards the winning post since morning.
太陽開始下山,很快就落到地平線以下。烏龜從早晨開始,就一直邁著腳步緩慢地前進。
Suddenly, the hare woke up and saw the tortoise far ahead of him! He leaped and bounded at a great pace, with his tongue lolling, and gasping for breath. Just a little more and he’d be first at the finish. But the hare’s last leap was just too late, for the tortoise had beaten him to the winning post.
突然,兔子一覺醒來,看見烏龜遠遠領先。他加速前進,伸出舌頭不斷地喘氣。再一下子,他就會是第一名。然而,兔子的最後衝刺為時已晚,因為烏龜已經把他打敗了。
